Sun, 27 Jun 2010 15:56:00 -0700 Go Cougars! http://ricardopal.com/go-cougars-2 http://ricardopal.com/go-cougars-2

How do I always end up in the most funny situations? I guess I can't help it, I don't know how. While I was in my last adventure i spent some time in Puerto Escondido Oaxaca, Mexico. This place is amazing, its like the ultimate surferland. One of the best places to surf in the world. While I was there I really got involved in absorbing the whole culture. I listened to reggae, (Peace & Love) and got really tan, running naked on the beach. I even I stopped wearing underwear.  I was a little hesistant at the beginning  but after a couple of days it felt great!  Its  been a month since I've worn underwear.

When I returned back to Austin, my friend AT asked me If I wanted to be her partner in a Crossfit competition. Looking back  l'm  wondering why I said yes.

The workout looked like workout from the movie "300!"  When I said yes I never considered that AT does crossfit and runs marathons all the time.  This workout might not be as challenging for her as it would be me.  Couldn't back out now, I'd already said yes.

The day of the competition I realized that I wasn't wearing any underwear and needed to get something to keep "things" from coming out during the competition,  Only place close by was an HEB!   Obviously HEB is not known for having an "underwear aisle" so my  only option was to purchase a pair of women's mini shorts that had "cougars" written across the butt!

Women's Cougar shorts and all, we ended up  finishing the workout in about 25 minutes and our team had the fastest time. The workout was hard and challeging and I honestly had no idea I had that  in me to finish.  I learned that I'm stronger and mentally tougher than I thought.  This workout illustrated that the source of ones strength does not come from ones muscles, but rather from your heart and mind. I guess I knew it was true but never actually understood it until the last couple of weeks when I was climbing Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood. It was the most painful and physically demanding thing I've ever done. But in order to grow and  become stronger and wiser, sometime pain is involved. Through my travels I've learned how to embrace pain and allow it to help me grow and develop as a man. Just another part of my journey through life.

Oregon-coast

When your final goal is to be a traveler and you want to spend your life exploring the world, it becomes a lifestyle.  I have been traveling for the last month and a half.  Honestly, I am a little overwhelmed with all the things I have experienced. One of the main obstacles I've had  to overcome is absorbing and learning as much as I can and letting go of anything  or anyone before I embark on my next adventure. Keeping myself open and available to change.  I have no problems letting go of places. My challenge is letting go of people.  How do I let go of people that I don't know?

Matthew 6:19-21

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Quite a first day of traveling I had. As I am waking up and I am able to see the view of Portland through the windows of a beautiful condo it makes me think of how lucky I have been at the beginning of my adventure.

"Hey David! I am about to do on a trip" before I could actually ask him if I could borrow some backpacking equipment he said "Come on over and we'll takes care of you". It has been a couple of months since I meet David Cutherell, he sells some of the best lightweight backpacking gear out there Gossamer Gear. Dave and I made a win win bater. I took picture of his products for his website and he hooks me up with gear. From all of the trades that I have made, this is the one I enjoy the most.

After arriving at the airport and meeting the entire team that it's going climbing, we went directly to the equipment rental shop. It does not matter if it's your first time climbing, if you get a out of a shop with mountaineering boots, Crampons and a Ice ax, you look pretty cool.

Then we head out to Donald Miller's Condo, I must said that I just read his first book (Blue Like Jazz). I really did not know him before the past two months, but I was impress with his writing. When we got to his house it turns out that he is a really cool guy, he cooked for us and let us stay in his place. Donald was with the first team climbing with the Bargo brothers

"Did you took pictures wile you where in Mexico?" said A.T. That was the next day that I got back from a 3 week trip to Mexico. I told here that I did not wanted to take the camera with me because I wanted to focus on my family during the time I was there. The death of my grandmother was probably the most painful situation the I have ever been. Of course I was not expecting that I was going to go to Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. Actually, the moment that I figure out I made a huge mistake by not taking my camera was when I was running naked in a virgin beach down there. I can remember perfectly the view of the ocean, it's hue weaves (it had been a major storm in the ocean) the blue sky, and nothing but sand in a couple square miles. Then she said "How selfish". Know that I think about it, it is real selfish. The least thing that I can do in return for having the opportunity to visit many amazing places around the world is to share them with other people.

It has been many times before that I have decided to start all over again. A couple of months ago I did it one more time. My ongoing exploration of the inner self has challenge me to review who I am.
